As would be expected, there are probably many questions on everybody’s minds about the Zodiac Goddesses. As such, I’ve compiled a list of questions that I think might become frequently asked. If you’re positive that you can’t find an answer to your question, then feel free to ask over at the Help Desk.
The World of Thera/The Roleplay
Q. Where (or what) is “Thera”?
A. Thera is the planet that the Zodiac Goddesses takes place on. It is essentially Earth (you’ll find that Thera is an anagram of Earth, as is my lack of imagination), only with a few differences. For one, the setting is much like medieval Earth would be – but filled with magic and various species, and with Goddesses walking amongst the people. Plus, sexuality, racism and prejudice aren’t problems on Thera as they are, or used to be, on Earth, as their belief is that the Goddesses love them all and are all different in their own way.
Q. Wait, the Goddesses are the religion on Thera?
A. Yes. Ever since the days when the original Goddesses came down to Thera and were taken in by the priests (and eventually killed off by them, forcing the priests to chose a set of ‘fake’ Goddesses from the girls of the surrounding villages of the Temple), there has been the belief that the Goddesses are real and are looking down on the people of Thera. However, the priests have manipulated this belief and have managed to manipulate the people of Thera into doing what they want.
Q. So, the priests are the bad guys?
A. Yes. Well, there are some of them that side with the Goddesses after finding out that they’re true reincarnations and not randomly chosen girls, but in the long run, the priests are the bad guys, yes.
Q. Thera is awfully small, isn’t it?
A. I suppose so. If you’ve noticed my terrible anagrams already, you’ll have noticed that Thera’s equivalent of Europe is a country rather than a continent, and you’ll have noticed that five countries from Earth have been turned into cities or villages here. There’s no need to have a large forum right now, so I’m keeping things simple.
Q. How similar to Earth is Thera?
A. Very. They have the same types of animals and the same jobs, as well as the same weapons. The only difference between Earth and Thera is that Thera is smaller, as mentioned previously, and has a variety of humanoid species and magical abilities that you wouldn’t find on Earth.
Q. What currency is there on Thera?
A. Simple coin or trading. The richer you are, the more likely you are to have coin. The most expensive is gold, which is equivalent to ten silvers, which is equivalent to twenty bronze.
Characters
Q. Does my Goddess have to be a Goddess?
A. As in female? Yes. There wouldn’t be much point in calling the roleplay the Zodiac Goddesses if they weren’t Goddesses now, would there? You do get to play the familiar, however, which is male.
Q. Do I have to play the familiar as well?
A. Technically, the familiar is part of the Goddess, so you’re essentially still playing the Goddess, but yes, you do have to play the familiar. They are a part of the Goddess, so they are also part of your own character.
Q. Aren’t the Goddesses technically godmoding in that they’re the most powerful people and can’t be killed?
A. The Goddesses can still be injured and they’re not actually immortal – but for reasons of continuity in the game, it’s better if they’re not killed off. They’re not the most powerful by far – at the current stage, there are nymphs that are probably more powerful, and the angels and demons are definitely more powerful than the Goddesses will be for a long time yet.
Q. Do I have to include a picture? If I do, can it be a real person/celebrity?
A. It depends, really, on what type of character you’re applying for. Personally, I’d prefer it if you used anime pictures rather than celebrity claims to back up your appearance description, because it’s easier to find anime pictures that would connect better with your characters than it would to find celebrities, considering the fantasy theme of the forum. But no, you don’t have to include a picture if you’re content with just typing description.
Q. The species that I want to play isn’t on the list. Can I still apply for it?
A. It depends on what type of species it is. If you think we could benefit from having the species, then feel free to write up a short description about the species and the species name, and submit it to the forum or send it in a PM to an administrator.
Q. I want to play a vampire or a werewolf, or another member of the ‘undead’, but you won’t accept the species. Why?
A. Because I’ve already thought about vampires and werewolves and other members of the undead, and I’ve felt that they don’t benefit the forum at the moment. Stick with the small amount of species that we do have, and then I’ll think about allowing vampires, werewolves or other creatures of the night.
Q. I posted my profile in the Character Applications board and it’s gone! What’s happened to it?
A. Chances are, it will have been moved to the Character Biographies category, under whichever sub-board that your species fits it into. Don’t worry, this is a good thing, as it means your character is accepted and you can begin roleplaying.
Q. My profile was rejected! Why? Does this mean I have to apply for a different character?
A. There are various reasons why your profile has been rejected, but the chances are we’ll tell you in the topic exactly what we felt was wrong with it. Most of the time, you’ve either used the wrong application form, haven’t given enough description, contradicted yourself, made too many spelling errors, or haven’t given a long enough writing sample. No, you don’t have to apply for a different character, as we’ll give you the chance to edit your profile and rework it.
Q. My profile hasn’t been accepted, but it hasn’t been rejected, either! Nobody’s even looked at it! What do I do?
A. The administrators and moderators might be caught up with their life outside the Internet, and that’s why they may not have had the chance to accept your profile. Please, be patient. However, if your profile has been posted for a week and there’s still been no response, feel free to contact a member of staff through private messaging or the chat box, and we’ll get to reviewing it as soon as possible.
Q. Can I roleplay my character even though the profile hasn’t been accepted?
A. No, because we need to make sure that your character is suitable for the setting before you can begin roleplaying with him or her. Once he or she is approved, however, you’re free to begin roleplaying.
Q. How many characters can I have per account?
A. Two. If you’re playing a Goddess, the Familiar does not count as the second character. You may not play two Goddesses, however, so please don’t think as applying for another one. You may create another account if you’d like to play another character, but again, don’t go applying for another Goddess if you’re already playing one.
Other Questions
Q. Can you really work a roleplay revolving around twelve main characters?
A. But the twelve main characters aren’t the only main characters. The Goddesses are important to the main plotline, but we are working on various other plotlines that include other characters and absolutely nothing to do with the Goddesses. Plus, you’re in control of your own character and can decide how important that character is to the other characters of the roleplay (within reason, of course).
Q. How big can my avatar and signature be?
A. Your avatar can be no bigger than 100x100 pixels. Your signature can be no bigger than 500x150 pixels. Any signatures or avatars exceeding the limit will be removed.
Q. Why are some people called by their character name on the forum? Can I be called by character name? Do I have to register again to do it?
A. People are called by their characters names rather than their usernames because it’s easier to know who is who by who they’re playing. You don’t have to register again to be known by your character name – you can choose how to display your name on the forum through your profile preferences.
Q. You’re low on staff members. Can I be an administrator/global moderator/moderator?
A. No. If we’re low on staff members, it probably means that we’re not looking for any at the moment because we have a suitable amount. We’ll ignore you if you ask to become a staff member and we won’t ask you to be one when it comes to us looking for staff members. If we want you to be a staff member, we will ask.
Q. Somebody’s harassing me on the forum! What do I do?
A. Be calm. Ask them what the problem is. If the pair of you can’t come to an agreement, then contact a member of staff and we’ll intervene. Do not respond in a childish harassing manner, it’s immaturity at its height.
Q. Why isn’t my post count going up?
A. The post count only goes up when your roleplay. It’s to avoid spamming and useless posts and people getting too many posts when they shouldn’t.
